(users) Overriding Default Auto-login Settings

If you want to override the default auto-login settings for a particular application, you can configure your own auto-login settings for that application from the iDesktop Auto-Login tab on the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog. This tab lists the default supported auto-login applications (MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign) that are currently installed and integrated with ProjectWise Explorer, and what the current auto-login settings are for each. The applications are listed by application class, so that if you have multiple versions of an application installed, this tab will only display the main application class name. The auto-login settings for that class will then apply to all supported versions of that application that may be installed.

You can configure auto-login settings differently for each application class. For example, you could configure each application class to auto-login to a different datasource, or you could configure one application class to use auto-login and the rest to use manual login.

In the following image, the dialog shows InDesign and Office configured to use manual login ("Do not log in automatically"), and it also shows MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit all configured to auto-login to the same datasource ("pwtest") but each using a different auto-login mode (MicroStation - auto-login using the CONNECTION client (Bentley IMS credentials); AutoCAD - auto-login using Windows single sign-on; Revit - auto-login using a specific ProjectWise user name and password).

Configure an Integrated Application to Use Auto-login

  1. Open the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog.
  2. Select the iDesktop Auto-Login tab.
Tip: The Global settings section on this tab shows whether or not you are allowed to configure auto-login or save passwords. To configure auto-login, the Allow automatic login setting must be on. To configure auto-login to use a specific ProjectWise user name and password, the Allow saving passwords setting must also be on.
  3. Select an application in the list and click Modify.

  4. In the Modify Auto-Login Setting for <Application> dialog, do the following:
    1. Select Auto-login to datasource selected below.
    2. Select a datasource from the Datasource list.
    3. Specify which credentials will be used to log in.
      • specific user name and password - If you want this application to auto-login using a specific ProjectWise user name and password, enter the User name and Password of that account in the fields provided (it can be a logical account or a Windows account).

        or

      • Windows account - If you want this application to auto-login using the credentials of whichever Windows user is logged on to this computer at the time of ProjectWise login (assuming that the Windows user has a matching Windows-based user account in the selected datasource), turn on Use Single Sign-On.

This option will be disabled if Windows single sign-on is not enabled in the selected datasource.

        or

      • Bentley IMS account - If you want this application to auto-login using the credentials of a Bentley IMS account, turn on Use CONNECTION client login. Leave the User name field blank if you want to allow this application to auto-login using the credentials of whichever Bentley IMS user is signed in to Bentley on this computer using the CONNECTION Client at the time of ProjectWise login. Or, if you want this application to auto-login using a specific Bentley IMS account, enter the name (primary email address) of that Bentley IMS user in the User name field.

This option will be disabled if Bentley IMS authentication is not enabled in the selected datasource.

    4. Click OK.
  5. Click Save in the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog.

The first time you configure an application to use a specific ProjectWise user name and password for auto-login on this computer, after clicking Save a dialog opens to inform you that the entered password is about to be saved locally (it will be encrypted and stored in the computer's registry), and gives you three options:

    • Yes Always — This will save the specified password locally now, and in the future you will not be notified about saving the password if you configure this or another application to use a specific ProjectWise user name and password for auto-login (the password will be automatically saved locally at such time, without any prompting).
    • Yes — This will save the specified password locally now, and in the future you will continue to be notified about saving the password if you configure this or another application to use a specific ProjectWise user name and password for auto-login.
    • No — This closes the dialog without applying your auto-login changes, and returns you to the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog where the Save button remains active.

Configure an Integrated Application to Use Manual Login

  1. Open the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog.
  2. Select the iDesktop Auto-Login tab, select an application in the list and click Modify.
  3. In the Modify Auto-Login Setting for <Application> dialog, select Do not login automatically and click OK.
  4. Click Save in the ProjectWise Network Configuration Settings dialog.
